What is the maximum number of people on any course?
The maximum number of people on a course is 12. We can accommodate 30 people for a demonstration.
What is the minimum age for taking a course?
The minimum age required to take any course is 18 unless you are attending a children’s course. All children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
What skill level is required to take a cookery course?
We offer courses to suit all skill levels, from absolute beginners, to advanced cooks. The majority of our courses are aimed at the enthusiastic home cook who can follow a recipe and cook a meal. We will teach you everything you need to know to approach all areas of cookery with confidence.
I’m Gluten Intolerant / Coeliac / Vegetarian / Lactose Intolerant / Severe Food Allergy etc can I come on your courses?
Our kitchens are in use for a variety of different courses, and although they are deep cleaned nightly, we cannot guarantee a nut/shellfish/etc free environment. It is important that you call us to discuss your dietary requirements before booking a course and we will endeavour to accommodate you on all courses.
How much practical work will I be doing?
All of our day, afternoon and morning courses are hands-on with a chef tutor who will guide you through the recipes and course content. Each course will set specific details of what your course will cover. You will also be expected to wash-up as you cook on our courses. Evening Demonstrations will not be hands-on, they will include Chef demonstrations and tasting!
Will lunch or dinner be provided for me?
If a course includes lunch or dinner it will be stated on the course details. On most of our courses you will taste all of the dishes you create and your lunch menu will be cooked yourself.
Will I get the recipes to take home?
Yes, you will receive a copy of the recipes used on your course which are yours to keep.
Is the cookery school wheelchair accessible?
The cookery school is fully accessible for disabled people and those in a wheelchair. Please contact us prior to making a booking to discuss your needs.
What type of people come on your courses?
We cater for those that wish to learn to cook in a quality adult learning environment. The courses are mixed gender and attract all age groups.
Can I attend a course by myself?
All our courses are suitable for an individual to attend; you will meet plenty of like-minded people on the day. Of course we welcome pairs, couples and groups of friends – however if you come alone you are guaranteed an enjoyable, entertaining and informative day out.
What should I wear?
You need to wear sensible footwear with non-slip soles and covered toes. Long hair needs to be tied back; we advise wearing comfortable clothes. We also recommend wearing trousers.
What equipment do I need?
In the majority of courses you will be making food you can take home, we recommend you to bring Tupperware or similar with you to take your creations home to show your family and friends.
Can I buy Gift Vouchers?
The Food Hub Cookery School gift voucher makes a unique gift. You can buy them online or by phone; vouchers can be used for any course leaving the recipient to decide the course they wish to attend. The gift vouchers are valid from 12 months from the date they were purchased. The purchase date and expiry date are written on your voucher.
Cookery School Terms & Conditions
Places are booked on a first-come-first-served basis upon receipt of payment.
On booking and paying for a course(es) you will receive a booking and payment confirmation by email.
Confirmed bookings may not be cancelled in any circumstances. Bookings are freely transferable to another person for the same course so you are welcome to send someone else in your place.
Transfers to another course are not permissible once a booking has been made. The course booked and paid for is the course that has to be attended.
Please notify us of any change in the contact details provided, as these will be used for all correspondence.
Confirmed bookings may not be cancelled in any circumstances. Bookings are, however, freely transferable so you are welcome to send someone else in your place.
Occasionally we may have to cancel or postpone a course due to unavoidable circumstances or if a course is under-subscribed. In such a case we will notify all confirmed attendees as soon as possible and offer full refunds or change of course.
Special dietary requirements & food allergies
Please inform us in advance of any allergies, disabilities, diabetes, pregnancy, epilepsy, learning difficulties etc. in advance of attending the course.
We are unable to tailor our course content for individual special dietary requirements. However, we will be happy to discuss course content beforehand to allow you to make your own alternative eating arrangements if necessary. There is no reduction in fee in this instance.
Health & Safety
Cooking requires the use of heat and sharp utensils so there is inevitably a risk of accidents. To minimise risk, all participants should wear shoes with flat, non-slip soles and covered toes. We cannot admit you to the cookery school without proper footwear.
We recommend wearing sensible clothing – we are not liable for any damage that occurs to clothing. Long hair must be tied back in the kitchen. All course participants will receive a short briefing on health and safety before each course.
We accept no liability for personal injury, or any loss of or damage to personal property.
We have a strictly no smoking policy.
Cookery School Hire Terms & Conditions
The hire fee must be agreed and paid in advance of your hire date. The hire fee includes the items listed on the booking form. An inventory list of equipment within the school will be provided in advance of your hire.
Any breakages or additional costs incurred from cleaning will need to be paid for.
Hire times are to be agreed in advance, our daily hire is from 9am – 5pm. If additional time is required it is charged at an additional rate.
The kitchen must be left as found on departure with all surfaces clean and tidy and equipment put away. You shall be responsible for providing your own public liability insurance to cover attendees.
Vehicular access is only via the Bellwell Lane entrance using the postcode: IP14 6JX
We reserve the right to ask any student to leave without reimbursement of fees if their behaviour is unsafe or unreasonable in any way.
Any property including vehicles, belonging to students that are brought to the ‘The Food Hub Cookery School’ are at student’s own risk and the proprietors accept no responsibility for any loss or damage to the property of any students, nor do they accept any liability for any personal injury to any student.
Fees and dates are quoted as at the time of going to press. We reserve the right to make alterations as and where relevant. You will be notified immediately of any changes.
We reserve the right to change the content on any course without prior notification. Dishes listed in course descriptions are only a guide to course content. Amendments may be made at our discretion.
Photography & Videos
We may take photographs or videos during courses for use on our social media or for future marketing purposes. If you would prefer not to be photographed or recorded please let us know on booking.
Upon receipt of a completed order form and appropriate validated payment, we will send you a receipt of confirmation by email.
The gift voucher(s) will either be emailed or posted to the address to be supplied by you.
Gift vouchers are redeemed by either emailing or telephoning The Food Hub Cookery School to select the course(es) of choice. It will be necessary to supply the gift voucher number when doing this.
Our Booking Terms and Conditions will apply to all bookings made with a gift voucher.
Gift vouchers are not refundable in any circumstances but are transferable to another person.
Gift vouchers will be valid for one year from date of purchase.
In the unlikely event of extreme weather conditions preventing a course or event from running, we will reschedule your booking at a mutually convenient date within 12 months.
